makati gig

hey you. if you’re my friend and i haven’t told you yet, i have a job now.  in fact, i was interviewed on a thursday, got hired about 15 minutes later, and then left for makati on monday where i spent two weeks training. free plane fare + free hotel stay + taxi allowance + meal allowance + 4 college classmates in tow = a hell of an experience!

hmm, if it’s your first time in makati, here’s a few things you have to know…

if you wear jeans, shirt, and sneakers… you’re going to feel out of place. everyone else is in slacks, blazers, and ties.

everyone walks. and walks and walks. trust me, you should wear comfy shoes. and expect to buy new shoes every now and then. shoes in makati die fast.

if you want to cross the street, you either have to go UP there or DOWN there. and oh, picture-taking is not allowed in the under-passes. we kinda learned that the hard way.

80% of taxi drivers are Bisaya. although, some of them want you to think they’re not. they’re looking for an opportunity to gyp you.

if you’re on a tight budget, don’t look for your usual carenderia or pungko2. There are none. instead, look for that stainless box they call Jolly Jeep.

if you have some change to spare (like we did, with our P400 daily meal allowance..hehe), you’ll have a great time picking a restaurant. but some tips, the canteen in the philam tower is up-scale. pricey and not too yummy. go to the PSE building and you’ll find great food as low as P40 per serving. you can try the enterprise bldg too for a nice feel at a more reasonable price.

midnight sales are fantaZtic! imagine Kamiseta at 50% off ALL, yes, you read it right, ALL items!

if you’re a sbarro addict like me, don’t try the ones in manila. ever. i tried 2 branches there and they both sucked. the garlic bread was thin and hard and didn’t taste garlicky at all! grrr…!

if you want to eat out on a friday night, do an early reservation. the waiting lines are super looong…

and finally, it’s impossible to get a taxi. the drivers are too picky with their passengers. so, yeah, walk.

by the way, i did get to go beyond makati.

i rode the space shuttle at enchanted kingdom. what an amAzzing experience. one ride a lifetime is EEEnough for me!

tried the Greenhills experience! you’re going to end up with a hUge hole in your pocket! rode the MRT, too. haha, you should listen to what Kwin has to say about that. hehe…

we went to mall of asia too. just to have dinner. haha…

anyway, now i’m back to my real world. i started fieldwork on my very first day at work. so far, it’s all been HAZY - as in, "i don’t know what the hell i’m doing here." and i’ve had too little sleep… arrg.. i’m in for a "BUSY" season! *sigh*

P.S.
we had our little reunion in makati. had dinner with manju, sheryll, stephen, rusty, gloria, and rheena… too bad we didn’t get to see ed and alex….
