Nevermind Baby Turns 16

July 1st, 2007 by samanthamalinao

Got this from celebitchy.com…!

The baby reaching for the dangling buck on the iconic album cover
“Nevermind: from Nirvana will turn 16 on July 9th. Little Spencer Elden
was photographed swimming in a pool and the dollar on the fishing line
was added later. Elden’s family were friends of the photographer hired
by Nirvana to shoot the cover, and were paid about $200 for their son’s
photograph.

In a September 2006 interview in NME, Elden said that he was proud to be a part of such a great album, and that the band’s songs don’t get old:

“Nevermind is fifteen years old now, but you
still hear the singles being played on the radio and it just doesn’t
sound dated. Most bands around today can’t even get near to what
Nirvana did on that album, and I’ll always be happy to be a part of it.”

Elden recreated the album cover in 2002 for an article in Rolling Stone that discusses how influential Nirvana was in changing the scope of popular music and how timeless all of the tracks are.

When “Nevermind” came out I was in college, and I remember my
friends singing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” as that was a hit single at
the time. I missed an opportunity to see Nirvana play at my school
around that time and will probably always regret it. It’s nice to see
that they’re still remembered and that Nirvana influenced more than
just my generation.

Check out the pics! Haha sooo cooooolll! Naa pa jud apilapilon hehe…

*frank_love33 invites atomikittenn to view his webcam
*atomikittenn accepts

Guess what? apparently, franky boy and his "ex-gf" were not on Santa’s nice list last christmas. but i think Santa might have regretted that one. coz franky’s ex-gf had big boobies lol.. how’d i know? well, the ex-gf was topless on cam while naughty little franky was stroking her… lol… omg, do i read like a sleazy romance novel here? hehe…

atomikittenn (6/24/2007 11:17:53 PM): ooh nice
atomikittenn (6/24/2007 11:17:55 PM): u do this often?
frank_love33 (6/24/2007 11:17:57 PM): watch only if alone
frank_love33 (6/24/2007 11:18:00 PM): we do this very rare
frank_love33 (6/24/2007 11:18:09 PM): u r lucky today

if you’re a guy and you’re drooling in envy, or you’re a girl and you’re shaking your head in disgust, don’t worry… the live show didn’t last very long. franky wanted to see me on my webcam.. but as much as i wanted to flash my boobs too, (haha.. kiddin’) i just couldn’t.. my webcam is non-existent..hehe..

im back!

June 24th, 2007 by samanthamalinao

when i started to assume my first fieldwork assignment at an american car dealer shop, my social/family/personal life (not to mention my fragile pulmonary system) took the backseat (of course, pun intended..hehe.) so what brings me back to the life of the living? to the self-serving blogging world? hehe… "it could only be a life-changing experience!" you think aloud with much conviction…

so here’s the deal… i was busy doing that r.e.m. thing (read: not the band, kiddo) in the middle of the night when a blinding flash of light and a deafening blast jolt me up on my ass.. i thought that kinda thing was just an exaggeration in movies. but i was literally draped around my (smelly) pillow one second, and the next im sittin’ upright thinking "something’s-exploded-our-house-is-on-fire-i’m-gonna-die!"

i think i was waiting for that moment before you die when your life flashes before you (hmm.. wonder who ill see?hehe).. but my head cleared up before the moment came and i realized it was just lightning striking too close for comfort. i know accuweather.com said there were going to be thunderstorms that night. but they should have put up a large warning sign… i haven’t been scared of lightning and thunder in a looong time. but well, i was pretty scared shitless that night. i was sure the morning news was going to blab about some unlucky people getting toast by lightning…

fastforward to daybreak and i find that my guess was wrong, well, not entirely… there were casualties from the previous night’s lightning but fortunately, these were: my cousin’s and lola’s tv sets, my other cousin’s and tita’s personal computer, my aunt’s air conditioner, and my pc’s modem!!! (f***, i just bought it 2 weeks ago. TG it’s under warranty.)

so i guess the morale of this "comeback post" is, it’s expensive to replace appliances! hehe…

p.s.
well i thought our house survived just minor "scrapes" from the thunderstorm… so last night when a few lightnings decided to drop by once again, i unplugged everythin’ just to be on the safe side…. then voila! this morning, our TV won’t turn on! it sucks, doesn’t it???

makati gig

December 1st, 2006 by samanthamalinao

hey you. if you’re my friend and i haven’t told you yet, i have a job now.  in fact, i was interviewed on a thursday, got hired about 15 minutes later, and then left for makati on monday where i spent two weeks training. free plane fare + free hotel stay + taxi allowance + meal allowance + 4 college classmates in tow = a hell of an experience!

hmm, if it’s your first time in makati, here’s a few things you have to know…

if you wear jeans, shirt, and sneakers… you’re going to feel out of place. everyone else is in slacks, blazers, and ties.

everyone walks. and walks and walks. trust me, you should wear comfy shoes. and expect to buy new shoes every now and then. shoes in makati die fast.

if you want to cross the street, you either have to go UP there or DOWN there. and oh, picture-taking is not allowed in the under-passes. we kinda learned that the hard way.

80% of taxi drivers are Bisaya. although, some of them want you to think they’re not. they’re looking for an opportunity to gyp you.

if you’re on a tight budget, don’t look for your usual carenderia or pungko2. There are none. instead, look for that stainless box they call Jolly Jeep.

if you have some change to spare (like we did, with our P400 daily meal allowance..hehe), you’ll have a great time picking a restaurant. but some tips, the canteen in the philam tower is up-scale. pricey and not too yummy. go to the PSE building and you’ll find great food as low as P40 per serving. you can try the enterprise bldg too for a nice feel at a more reasonable price.

midnight sales are fantaZtic! imagine Kamiseta at 50% off ALL, yes, you read it right, ALL items!

if you’re a sbarro addict like me, don’t try the ones in manila. ever. i tried 2 branches there and they both sucked. the garlic bread was thin and hard and didn’t taste garlicky at all! grrr…!

if you want to eat out on a friday night, do an early reservation. the waiting lines are super looong…

and finally, it’s impossible to get a taxi. the drivers are too picky with their passengers. so, yeah, walk.

by the way, i did get to go beyond makati.

i rode the space shuttle at enchanted kingdom. what an amAzzing experience. one ride a lifetime is EEEnough for me!

tried the Greenhills experience! you’re going to end up with a hUge hole in your pocket! rode the MRT, too. haha, you should listen to what Kwin has to say about that. hehe…

we went to mall of asia too. just to have dinner. haha…

anyway, now i’m back to my real world. i started fieldwork on my very first day at work. so far, it’s all been HAZY - as in, "i don’t know what the hell i’m doing here." and i’ve had too little sleep… arrg.. i’m in for a "BUSY" season! *sigh*

P.S.
we had our little reunion in makati. had dinner with manju, sheryll, stephen, rusty, gloria, and rheena… too bad we didn’t get to see ed and alex….

shucks, megotajob

November 9th, 2006 by samanthamalinao

hmm.. i dont know why i’m not in the mood to celebrate. but i did get hired yesterday. i started sending in my applications last friday and took an exam on monday and another on wednesday with the same firm. but then yesterday, i was due for interview at another firm and while i was still answering the essay questions after the interview, they said i got hired. my first text was to wenbert "fuck. i got hired :("… just the previous night, i had prayed that if i got hired, then it was a sign that this was the "direction" i should take; that whatever prior doubts had to be set aside. and that if i weren’t hired, i’d be happier knowing there’s another "route" i should take. this wasn’t my dream job to begin with. quite the contrary actually. but since God did give me this sign, i’m all for it now… btw, we’re off to makati on monday for a 2-week training… good luck to me!

hold the wheel and drive

October 24th, 2006 by samanthamalinao

thats exactly what wenbert did last monday. drove from 8am till sundown, from mandaue to liloan, to boljoon, and back… it was our first trip by ourselves after 5 years of being together. it was a great way to end my 5.5 years in college. sunday was the last board exam. i wanted to do something enjoyable while waiting for the exam results to come in. lexmark had the ramadan holiday on monday instead of tuesday. it was a perfect fit.

our goal: we were going to find a good beach anywhere between SRP and boljoon. :)
our tools: a full tank of gas, fastfood takeout, 2 bags of chips, a loaf of bread, peanutbutter & cheezwhiz, and a good camera.

we took our fastfood takeout lunch across the boljoon church. i really love this part of boljoon. the scenery is amazing.

1_1

i just love how that part of the mountain sticks out, hiding the road and everything else. you almost forget that there’s a road back there.
2

we spent the rest of the afternoon in dalaguete. wenbert had great fun swimming. i had fun taking pictures..hehe…
3

next time, we’re goin’ up north. :)

praying like hell works

October 23rd, 2006 by samanthamalinao

i was so scared of failing. see, i’ve never failed a single exam in my life. and what a big joke it’d be if i failed the one LAST exam that really mattered. after the taxation exam, i was sure i’d sealed my fate and i was resigned to a retake.

i spent the entire day yesterday "away from civilization". wenbert and i took a road trip to boljoon!he wanted a swim; i wanted to take my mind off the exam results.  we got to wenber’ts home at around 5pm. i had a feeling the results were in, but i didn’t want to know right away. instead, we watch "snakes on a plane". at around 7pm, wenbert had to update some websites; so it was inevitable, the internet beckoned. i checked the net and saw the flashing banner "new cpa examination results". i was literally ready to start crying because i "knew" i had failed.

i pressed CTRL + F, typed in my name, and omg, there i was, cpa board passer #918…. i felt GOD right there and then. i cried, but yes, you guessed it, they were tears of joy :). it was euphoric. i texted my friends, emailed my relatives abroad, and called home.

thank you so much to everybody who cared! esp wenbert who drove to liloan from mandaue at 5:30 am of my exam days to take me to uc-main. to his mom for the sacred heart novena. his aunt & ms. gerebese for their prayers. to the crazy family. thank you!!! and oh, i used the cross ballpen from Rhine for good luck and it worked!

i’ve always liked topping my exams since kinder, but yesterday, it felt a hundred times better to "JUST" pass. please correct me, but wasn’t the date yesterday DECEMBER 25?

supernova illegal?

September 15th, 2006 by samanthamalinao

seems like supernova will have to go on tour under another name..

"Last month, the original Supernova — an Orange County, California, punk
trio — filed for a preliminary injunction in San Diego’s U.S. District
Court against CBS Broadcasting, Mark Burnett Productions and Lee,
Newsted and Clarke, who are starring in the second season of the
reality show. The injunction sought to halt the television-contrived
act from performing or recording under the name "Supernova" if the band
fails to change or add any words to the moniker.

The original Supernova — which formed in 1989 and released four studio
LPs — first filed suit against the show’s producers in late June (see "Supernova Sue ‘Rock Star: Supernova’ Producers, Bandmembers").
The filing alleged trademark infringement and sought a jury trial, as
well as the eradication of all "labels, signs, prints, packages,
wrappers, containers, advertisements, electronic media and other
materials bearing the Supernova mark."

Supernova are perhaps best known for their tune "Chewbacca," which
appeared on the soundtrack to Kevin Smith’s 1994 film "Clerks." When
the group discovered the show’s producers’ intentions to use Supernova
as the name for their supergroup, the band contacted them; negotiations
between both sides followed on the heels of the suit’s filing. Those
talks hit a wall last month, forcing the band to take additional legal
action to protect its rights."

Tommy Lee can come crying on my shoulder ;)

rockstar supernova superdud?

September 13th, 2006 by samanthamalinao

i love the show to death! it’s my all-time favorite entertainment show. but somehow, i don’t always pick the winner. like last season, i really really liked marty casey who ended up second to jd. but marty’s style was, well, also not really inxs. this season, i’m suddenly so crazy over tommy lee. my god, he’s so hot! but picking lucas? yikes.

that 911 shiver

September 10th, 2006 by samanthamalinao

where were you on 911? i was at home totally clueless when i received a text message to pray for thanks because my tito and his then new wife missed, by just one elevator ride, being one of the 3,000plus who died…they were on the first floor waiting for the elevator to take them up to the observatory when the first plane hit the tower. they ran along with the others outside, stepping on plane wreckage and debris… miracles do happen. it’s an amazing story, really. amazing enough that you can read about their story in today’s sunstar issue on page 4..:) or you can check out sunstar.com.ph provincial news cebu… (of course, it also helped that my cousin’s a sunstar staff reporter..hehe)
